About the Lab

We test what actually moves AI visibility — in the open

AI Visibility Lab is an independent research property. We publish plain-English guidance and run a live, two-site experiment so the advice we give is grounded in evidence rather than hype.

Our mission

Cut through the noise around “ranking in AI.” Most of what gets a page cited by an answer engine is the same work that makes it discoverable in traditional search — the engine has to find, read and trust a page before it can quote it. We document that relationship clearly enough that a small-business owner can act on it without a marketing degree.

The experiment behind the writing

Rather than assert our thesis, we test it. We run two parallel websites in the same niche, targeting the same long-tail questions — one built carefully, one built the way a typical underperforming site is built — and track how each performs across traditional and AI search over time. The topic is held constant so it isn’t the variable; only implementation quality changes.

To keep the measurement clean we don’t publicly identify the second site or link to it while the experiment is running — naming it could change its visibility and contaminate the very thing we’re trying to observe. The SEO vs GEO experiment page lays out the full method, what we’re measuring, and where the experiment currently stands.

The standards we hold our guides to

Every page on this site is built to a published editorial bar. It’s how we keep the writing trustworthy as the underlying engines shift month to month:

  • Answer-first and checkable. Each page opens with a direct answer and favours concrete, testable advice over vague principles.
  • One original framing per page— a clear mental model, not a recycled listicle.
  • Hedged claims about AI internals.Engine behaviour is reported, not published, and changes often, so we say “reportedly” or “tends to” rather than stating moving targets as fact.
  • Honest caveats. When we don’t know something yet, we say so — and we won’t dress a hypothesis up as a finding.
  • Real trust signals. Author, review and last-updated dates are accurate, never inflated.

The team behind it

Our work is published under the AI Visibility Lab Research Team— the editorial and research group that writes the guides, runs the experiment, and reviews every page against the standards above. The byline you see across the site resolves to this team, not an anonymous content mill.

Independent

We’re not affiliated with any search or AI company, and we don’t sell rankings. Our findings are our own and may be wrong — which is exactly why we keep testing them in the open.
